How Stripe fees work
Stripe fees are a percentage of the transaction plus a fixed fee. Extra modifiers stack on top for international cards, premium services, and disputes.
How much does Stripe charge?
Stripe pricing varies by country. Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 in the US, 1.5% + €0.25 in Europe, and 3.6% in Japan. These Stripe rates cover payment processing, fraud protection, and infrastructure costs.
Stripe transaction fees are automatically deducted from each payment before funds reach your account.
How to calculate Stripe fees (processing fee calculator)
This is how you can calculate Stripe fees:
Stripe fee = (amount × percentage) + fixed fee + modifiers
For a US $100 card charge, the Stripe fee is $2.90 + $0.30 = $3.20. For a UK £100 card charge, it’s £1.50 + £0.20 = £1.70. Add +1.5% for international cards and +1% for currency conversion when those apply.
Does Stripe have hidden fees?
Stripe has transparent pricing with no setup fees or monthly charges for basic processing. But costs stack: Stripe Billing (+0.7%), Managed Payments (+3.5%), international cards (+1.5%), currency conversion (+1%), invoices ($0.40-$0.75), and $15 per dispute.
Everything is documented publicly, but your effective rate can easily double once modifiers are applied. Use the calculator above to see the real number.
Stripe transaction fee calculator by payment method
Stripe transaction fees differ by payment method: 2.9% + $0.30 for US cards, 0.8% (capped at $5) for ACH Direct Debit, 5.99% + $0.30 for buy now pay later, and 1.5% flat for stablecoins. The calculator above applies the correct rate for every method Stripe supports.

Stripe fees calculator for international cards
When a customer pays with a card issued outside your Stripe account country, Stripe adds +1.5% for the international card modifier. If the payment also requires currency conversion, another +1% stacks on top.

How much does Stripe take from $100?
Stripe takes $3.20 from a $100 payment on a standard US card: 2.9% of $100 is $2.90, plus the $0.30 fixed fee. You receive $96.80, an effective rate of 3.2%. If the customer pays with an international card, add 1.5% ($1.50), and if currency conversion applies, add another 1% ($1.00), which takes the total fee to $5.70 and your net to $94.30. Use the calculator above to apply your own country rate and modifiers to any amount.
How much does Stripe take from $1,000?
Stripe takes $29.30 from a $1,000 payment on a standard US card: 2.9% of $1,000 is $29.00, plus the $0.30 fixed fee. You receive $970.70, an effective rate of 2.93%. The fixed fee matters less on larger payments, so your effective rate falls toward the headline 2.9% as the amount grows. On a $1,000 ACH Direct Debit payment, the 0.8% fee is capped at $5, so you would keep $995.00 instead. Switch payment methods in the calculator above to compare.
