What is cart abandonment and when is a checkout marked as abandoned?

Cart abandonment happens when a visitor starts checkout but doesn’t complete the purchase. In Checkout Page, a checkout is considered abandoned after 1 hour. If a customer enters their email, a draft order is created so you can follow up and recover the sale.

Does Checkout Page send abandoned cart emails automatically?

Yes. After enabling Save customer contact details and Send checkout reminder emails in Store settings > Cart abandonment, Checkout Page sends up to three reminders: the first about 1 hour after abandonment, a second within 24 hours, and a third after 48 hours if the order is still incomplete.

How do I set up cart abandonment recovery?

Go to Store Settings > Cart abandonment and enable Save customer contact details and Send checkout reminder emails. To customize emails, open the page editor and navigate to After payment > Abandonment to edit each reminder’s subject, body, and button text.

Can I customize abandoned cart emails and track performance?

Absolutely. Create custom reminder emails (including variables like customer name and order details), and track each message’s status (sent, delivered, failed, opened). Each abandoned checkout shows whether and when it was recovered and which reminder was sent. Your Pages list also shows total recovered revenue.
