The customer
Our customer, Happy Golfer, is on a mission: to make golf more inclusive, accessible, and engaging.
Founded in Sweden in 2013, they've introduced thousands of new players to the sport by reimagining what a golf club membership looks like. In their own words:
We believe that golf needs to become more accessible and therefore focus on developing digital solutions that lower the thresholds into the sport.
Offering a dynamic mix of memberships and events with multi-tier tickets, they required a flexible payment solution that didn't bottleneck growth or innovation, and their existing solution was not delivering.
The challenge
Despite having an in-house development team, Happy Golfer found its existing checkout systems, primarily WooCommerce, JotForm, and Make, were proving too complex, buggy, and time-consuming to manage. This drastically limited their ability to sell memberships and events in the way they wanted.
Here's what wasn't working:
- Forced cart flows: Platforms like WooCommerce required customers to go through a traditional "add to cart" flow, which didn't make sense for subscriptions or single-offer purchases.
- Limited subscription options: They needed to charge an upfront fee with the actual subscription starting on a future date, something they couldn't do without custom code.
- Lack of multilingual flexibility: Stripe's checkout supported basic translation but didn't let them choose the exact wording of buttons in Swedish. They wanted persuasive, localized button text like "Join our community," but couldn't customize it.
- Hard-coded UI elements: They could not adjust the UI elements to match their branding or website, meaning the checkout experience felt disjointed, which led to abandonment.
- Heavy dev dependency: Even with founder Niklas' technical abilities, he had to rely heavily on his development team to wrangle their systems into a shape that suited them. This significantly slowed them down and drained resources.
The journey
Happy Golfer evaluated several alternatives, including Stripe Checkout, a natural option to consider given that they already used Stripe. However, they quickly hit a wall with Stripe's checkout, which couldn't be customized to match their unique brand personality or sales funnel requirements.
For example, they wanted to change the generic text on a form button to something persuasive, like "Join our awesome community," but they couldn't do that with Stripe.
These seemingly small limitations added up over time. This lack of control over branding, messaging, and checkout flow eventually became a deal-breaker, and they began searching for a better solution to support their mission.

The solution
When Happy Golfer discovered Checkout Page and saw the degree of flexibility we could give them, all without a single line of code, they said they wished they'd found us much sooner. They'd have saved one year of work and a huge amount of money!
Checkout Page made it a breeze for the team to:
- Translate and customize all checkout UI, including creating persuasive button labels in Swedish.
- Remove developer dependency by letting non-developers create, style, and test checkout flows.
- Implement custom billing models, such as charging a one-time fee upfront while starting the subscription at a future date, which is not possible with Stripe Checkout alone.
The implementation
Checkout Page gave Happy Golfer's founder, Niklas, the freedom to build and iterate without waiting on developers. Using our no-code tools, he and his team created flexible, branded checkout flows that aligned with their business goals, enabling them to sell their memberships effectively.
Since signing up two years ago, Niklas and the team have set up:
- Multi-step flows using combinations of forms and checkouts
- One-click upsells and order bumps integrated into their sales funnel
- Multiple event pages with tiered ticket types for the many golfing events advertised on their website
- Fully embedded pages that look and feel native to their website
- Custom styling with CSS to perfectly match every visual detail to their brand
Happy Golfer's membership signup
They first put Checkout Page to work on their membership signup and payment process.
The first step in the process after a customer has selected their membership tier is an embedded custom registration form to capture critical details:

Next, upon submission of the form, the customer is offered a one-click upsell with customized button text, all within the same page.

After either accepting the upsell or not, the customer is taken to a simple payment form where they can complete their membership payment by entering their card details:

Happy Golfer's event ticketing pages
When we launched our dedicated event ticketing pages, Happy Golfer jumped at the chance to use them to sell tickets to events in their jam-packed calendar.
Our pages enable them to sell as many events as they like, with multiple ticket types at no extra cost, saving them a huge amount when compared to platforms like Eventbrite.

All of this was done without pulling in the development team, saving time and streamlining experimentation. They now handle:
- Membership signups with dynamic options
- Product upsells through embedded forms and conditional flows
- Golf event ticketing, with plans to start using the newly launched event check-in app
This setup not only freed up their developers to focus on core product work but also gave the Happy Golfer team flexibility to test and improve conversion flows independently and rapidly.
The results
We're happy to report that Happy Golfer has:
- Saved time and money by removing reliance on development resources.
- Increased conversions with customized, branded, multi-step checkout flows.
- Streamlined operations by consolidating payments for memberships, products, and events into one flexible platform.
- Enabled rapid experimentation for optimizing customer journeys.
We asked Niklas to share how Checkout Page has impacted Happy Golfer, and here's what he had to say:
We really appreciate the simplicity and reliability of Checkout Page. It lets us launch new products quickly and integrates seamlessly with all our systems through robust webhook support. It just works, saving us time and letting us focus on growth instead of infrastructure.
Checkout Page is proud to have supported Happy Golfer's growth from a niche membership product to a recognizable ecommerce and event brand that, happily, now has complete control of its checkout flow and branding.
