How Etsy fees work

Every Etsy sale carries at least three fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 in the US or 4% + £0.20 in the UK. Advertising adds a fourth. Here is each one with its exact rate, verified June 2026.

The $0.20 listing fee

Etsy charges $0.20 each time you create or renew a listing. It is billed in US dollars worldwide, so UK sellers pay roughly £0.16 depending on the exchange rate. When an item sells and the listing renews for the next unit, you pay the fee again.

It is the one Etsy fee you pay whether or not anything sells. A shop with hundreds of listings pays for every renewal, so slow-moving inventory quietly costs money. The calculator includes one $0.20 fee per sale, the cost of the listing the sale consumes.

The 6.5% transaction fee

Etsy’s core commission is 6.5% of the order total: the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. If you run a sale or send a discount code, the 6.5% applies to the discounted amount the buyer actually pays.

Because shipping is included, you cannot reduce the fee by moving cost from the item price into postage. An $80 item with $20 shipping pays exactly the same transaction fee as a $100 item with free shipping. The rate is the same 6.5% for US and UK sellers.

Payment processing fees

Etsy Payments charges its own processing fee on top of the transaction fee: 3% + $0.25 per order for US sellers and 4% + £0.20 per order for UK sellers, applied to the full amount the buyer pays, including shipping.

Stacked with the transaction fee, a US seller hands over 9.5% plus $0.45 in percentage and fixed fees on a typical order before any advertising. That is why the effective rate on a $100 US sale lands at 9.95%, not the 6.5% most sellers expect.

Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads

Etsy Ads promote your listings inside Etsy on a daily budget you set; enter your average spend per sale in the calculator to include it. Offsite Ads are different: Etsy advertises your products on Google and social platforms, and charges you only when an attributed sale happens.

The Offsite Ads fee is 15% of the order if your shop made under $10k in the past year (you can opt out) and 12% once you pass $10k (you cannot opt out), capped at $100 per order. On an attributed sale, that fee usually dwarfs every other Etsy charge combined.

Etsy fees on a $100 sale

Sell a $100 item on Etsy in the US with no shipping charge and Etsy takes $9.95: a $0.20 listing fee, a $6.50 transaction fee (6.5% of $100) and a $3.25 payment processing fee (3% + $0.25). You keep $90.05 before your own costs, an effective fee rate of 9.95%. If the sale came through Offsite Ads at the 15% tier, add another $15.00 and the total fees jump to $24.95.

Fees are only half the picture. Say the item cost $30 in materials and $5 to ship: your net profit on that $100 sale is $55.05, a 55.05% margin. The calculator above runs the same math for your real numbers, and the reverse mode works backwards from the profit or margin you want to the price you should list at.

If you sell printables, templates or other digital downloads, those percentages never go away on Etsy. Many Etsy digital sellers also sell digital products directly with Stripe from their own checkout, keeping marketplace fees off the sales they drive themselves.
