Add booking fees to event tickets
How to add a fixed booking fee to each ticket and choose how it is displayed
What is a booking fee?
A booking fee is a fixed amount added to the ticket price. It is charged once for every ticket purchased, rather than once for the whole booking.
For example, a $10 ticket with a $3 booking fee costs $13. If a customer buys two tickets, the booking fee is charged twice and the total is $26.
Booking fees work with each pricing option:
- Fixed price: The booking fee is added to the ticket price.
- Pay what you want: The booking fee is added to the amount the customer chooses.
- Free: The customer still pays the booking fee.
How to add a booking fee
- Open the event you want to edit.
- Go to Event → Ticket types.
- Create a ticket type or open an existing one.
- Under Pricing, choose Fixed price, Pay what you want or Free.
- Complete the pricing fields for the selected option.
- Enter the fixed amount charged per ticket in Booking fee.
- Select Save.
When creating a new event, you can also enter the booking fee during the Create tickets step.
The booking fee uses the currency selected for the event.
How to display booking fees
Booking fees are set on individual ticket types. How the fees are displayed is controlled by the ticket group.
- Open the relevant ticket group.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Under Ticket fee display, choose:
- Included in price: Customers see the combined ticket price, with a note explaining that it includes the booking fee.
- Shown separately: Customers see the ticket price and booking fee as separate amounts.
- Select Save.
For a $10 ticket with a $3 booking fee:
- Included in price displays $13 with the message “Includes $3 booking fee.”
- Shown separately displays a $10 ticket price and a $3 booking fee.
The customer pays $13 with either option. The setting only changes how the price is presented on the event page.
Displaying the total ticket price upfront
Some countries require mandatory ticket fees to be included in the total price shown upfront.
In the US, the FTC Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees requires known mandatory fees to be included in the displayed total price, which must be more prominent than any separate price or fee breakdown.
Similarly, UK price transparency guidance says that unavoidable charges, including booking fees, should normally be included in the total price shown upfront.
If total-price rules apply to your event, select Included in price. This presents the ticket price and booking fee as one combined headline price while still identifying how much of the total is the booking fee.
Shown separately may not meet local requirements if the ticket price is more prominent than the combined total.
Checkout Page provides options to support transparent pricing, but you are responsible for determining which laws apply to your event.
Discounts and booking fees
Coupon codes
You can choose whether a coupon discount also applies to booking fees.
- Create a new coupon or open an existing one.
- Enter the coupon label, code and discount.
- Under Also apply discount to, select Booking fees.
- Complete the remaining coupon settings and save the coupon.
Only select this option when you want the coupon discount to include booking fees.
Bulk discounts
Bulk discounts only reduce the ticket price. They do not discount the booking fee.
For example, if a bulk discount reduces a $10 ticket to $8 and the ticket has a $3 booking fee, the customer pays $11 per ticket. The full $3 booking fee is still charged for every ticket purchased.
Unlike coupons, there is no option to apply a bulk discount to booking fees.
How booking fees appear after purchase
Booking fees remain itemized after a purchase, regardless of how they were displayed on the event page.
Order page
On the order page, you can see:
- The total booking fees under Payment
- The fee for each ticket in the Fee column
- The ticket price and booking fee combined under Amount
Invoices
On the invoice, the ticket price and booking fee appear as separate line items. The invoice total includes both amounts.
For example, a $49 ticket with a $3 booking fee appears as two invoice lines and has a total of $52.
The Ticket fee display setting does not change how booking fees are itemized on orders and invoices.
