Organise fields into groups and columns

Use groups, columns, headings and dividers to make your form easier to complete.

What are field groups?

A group keeps related fields together and lets you display them in one to four columns.

For example, you could place First name and Last name side by side, or group several questions about delivery.

You can add as many groups as you need and arrange them in any order. Groups organise fields within the same page. They do not create separate form steps.

Create a group

Open the page you want to edit and select Form fields in the sidebar.

You can create a group in two ways:

  • In the field picker, select Layout → Group to add an empty group.
  • Open an existing field’s menu and select Group to place that field in a new group.

Name a group

Click the group’s name to open the Group name setting.

Group names are optional and only visible to you. Use them to identify sections in the editor, such as “Contact details” or “Delivery questions”.

To display a section title to customers, add a Heading or Subheading.

Add fields to a group

You can add new fields directly to a group or move existing fields into it.

Add a new field

  1. Click Add to group inside the group, or select Add to group from the group’s menu.
  2. Select the field type.
  3. Configure its label and settings.
  4. Click Save.

Move existing fields

Drag fields into a group, out of a group or between groups.

You can also use the field’s menu:

  1. Open the field’s menu.
  2. Select Move to.
  3. Choose a destination group or Outside a group.

Moving a field out of a group keeps it in your form.

Set a column layout

Use columns to display related fields side by side.

  1. Find the group in Form fields.
  2. Open the column selector beside the group’s name.
  3. Choose 1 column, 2 columns, 3 columns or 4 columns.
  4. Check the result in the preview.

The column setting applies to that group, so you can use different layouts for different parts of your form.

Two columns work well for short answers such as First name and Last name. Use one column for longer questions or answers that need more space.

Rearrange fields and groups

Drag fields within a group to change their order.

You can also drag entire groups to rearrange the sections of your form. Groups can appear in any order.

Use the preview to check that the sections and questions appear in the order you want customers to complete them.

Duplicate a group

Open the group’s menu and select Duplicate.

Use this when you want to create a similar set of fields. Review the copied fields and update their labels and settings as needed.

Ungroup fields

Open the group’s menu and select Ungroup.

This removes the grouping while keeping the fields in your form.

Add headings, subheadings and dividers

In the field picker, the Layout section includes Heading, Subheading and Divider.

ElementWhen to use it
HeadingIntroduce a main section, such as “Your details” or “Delivery information”.
SubheadingIntroduce a smaller section within your form.
DividerVisually separate sections with a line.

Select the element you want to add. Use these elements to introduce questions or separate parts of your form.

Headings, subheadings and dividers do not collect customer answers.

Example: display names side by side

  1. Add a Group.
  2. Click Add to group and add a First name field.
  3. Click Add to group again and add a Last name field.
  4. Set the group to 2 columns.

You can keep longer fields, such as a message or special request, outside the group so they have their own row.
