What is a free trial?

A free trial lets a customer use a subscription or payment plan for a set number of days before being charged. The first payment is charged automatically when the trial ends.

Example:
A customer purchases a subscription on May 3 at 14:00 with a 7-day free trial. The first charge occurs on May 10 at 14:00.

Customers can cancel during the trial period from their customer portal.

How to add a free trial

1. Go to Pages → Create page → Checkout (or edit an existing checkout).
2. Under Pricing, select Subscription or Payment plan.
3. Check Free trial.
4. Enter the number of trial days.
5. Click Create checkout.

How to change the trial length after purchase

Trial dates can be extended or shortened from your Stripe account.

1. Go to Orders → Subscriptions and open the subscription.
2. Click View Stripe from the right-side menu.
3. In Stripe, click Actions → Update subscription.
4. Scroll to Free trial days and edit the value.
