How to use cart abandonment
How to set up cart abandonment tracking and recovery strategies to reconnect with customers
What is cart abandonment?
Cart abandonment sends automated reminder emails to customers who entered their email address but did not complete checkout. An order is marked as abandoned 1 hour after the customer leaves.
How to enable cart abandonment
- Go to Store settings → Cart abandonment.
- Check Save customer contact details — saves the customer's email address when they enter it at checkout.
- Check Send checkout reminder emails — sends automated reminder emails (requires step 2 to be enabled first).
Reminder email schedule
- 1st email — sent 1 hour after abandonment.
- 2nd email — sent 24 hours after abandonment.
- 3rd email — sent 48 hours after abandonment.
Emails stop if the customer completes their purchase.
How to customize reminder emails
- Go to Pages and open the page you want to edit.
- Go to Checkout → Cart abandonment.
- Click on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd reminder email.
- Select Custom reminder email.
- Edit the subject line, email body, and button text. Use the + icon to insert variables (e.g. customer name, order details).
- Click Save.
How to view abandoned orders
- Go to Orders and select Payments, Subscriptions, or Event bookings.
- Filter by Abandoned.
You can also view abandoned orders per page by opening the page and filtering Bookings or Payments by Abandoned.
Each abandoned order shows whether it was recovered, which reminder emails were sent, and when.
How to track reminder emails
Each abandoned order shows the status of reminder emails: sent, delivered, or failed, and whether the email was opened.
Recovered revenue
Both the Pages list and a page's overview show cart abandonment metrics: the number of abandoned checkouts, how many were recovered, and the total recovered revenue.
Zapier integration for abandoned orders
Abandoned orders can be used as triggers in Zapier.
Available Zapier triggers:
- Abandoned payment
- Abandoned subscription
- Abandoned booking
